FAST RESPONSE SEVEN-HOLE “COBRA” PROBE
High-precision, fast-response digital seven-hole probe system for directional velocity and turbulence measurement
This fully-integrated, self-contained multihole probe system with on-board sensors and A/D offers a robust wide-bandwidth solution for turbulent flow measurement. Ideal for use in wind tunnel, automotive and research applications, this probe is dynamically calibrated and provides measures of velocity components and turbulence intensity on-screen in real time. The modular structure enables probe stings to be removed for maintenance or purge, and offers maximum flexibility in operation.
This system provides three components of velocity, together with turbulence intensity, absolute static pressure, local fluid temperature and humidity (for density corrections) and an IMU for automatic alignment and vibration warning. A low-profile, in-line sensor package (measuring under 18 mm in diameter) minimizes interference, and all the software is included (with a software development kit for NI LabVIEW integration).
Applications
Digital seven-hole “Cobra” probe system
Wind tunnel testing
With 24-bit pressure measurements, integrated environmental and alignment sensors, this system is one of the most sophisticated and functional fluid velocity probes on the market. Available with ranges down to 160 Pa and with an integrated fluid temperature sensor, this system is equally ideal for low- and high-speed aerodynamics.
Motorsport
With package dimensions and communications similar to other five-hole probe and seven-hole probe solutions currently available, this system offers a high-performance, high-precision alternative for wind-tunnel scanning. High fabrication tolerance and factory sensor calibration also allows a degree of probe interchangability minimizing the need for time-consuming recalibrations.
Unmanned aircraft
With the option of a polymer enclosure, this system may even be used as a turbulent flow instrumentation system on light UAVs. The probe and sensor module are integrated into a single component for ease of installation and use, while the low mass, low power consumption and high sensitivity mean that this system is well-suited to low-speed operation over a wide range of altitudes.
